New PV & Visual Revealed For ‘Gintama: The Final’ Movie

A new PV and visual was released for the movie Gintama: The Final, on Saturday, which also happened to Gintoki Sakata’s birthday. The theme song “Wadachi” (Tracks) by the band SPYAIR was previewed in the PV. They have also performed three previous theme songs for the Gintama television anime and the theme song for a previous film. The movie premieres on January 8, 2021 in Japan. It will adapt the finale of the original manga with some added plot elements.

Along with the theme song preview, the PV also emphasizes that Gintama: The Final will indeed be the finale of the franchise.

A new youtube channel for Gintama was also launched on Saturday. It is currently streaming first television episode and eight other episodes. It will stream 2010’s Gintama: The Movie at 7:00 p.m. (6:00 a.m. EDT). Starting on October 24, the channel will stream the top 25 episodes as chosen by votes in the ongoing poll, ANN reported.

Gintama anime is based on manga written and illustrated by Hideaki Sorachi. It was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump from December 2003 to September 2018, later in Jump GIGA from December 2018 to February 2019, and finished on the Gin Tama app in June 2019.

Set in Edo which has been conquered by aliens named Amanto, the plot follows life from the point of view of samurai Gintoki Sakata, who works as a freelancer alongside his friends Shinpachi Shimura and Kagura in order to pay the monthly rent.

The manga was adapted into a full 367-episode anime television series, which debuted in April 2006 on TV Tokyo, and finished in October 2018. Two animated movies were also released based on the manga. The first film premiered in April 2010. The second film premiered in July 2013.

Besides the anime series, there have been various light novels and video games based on Gin Tama. A live-action film adaptation of the same name was released in July 2017 in Japan by Warner Bros. Pictures.
