Netflix Unveils Teaser For Wit Studio’s Moonrise Anime At Tudum

Hiromu Arakawa is serving as the original character designer for the anime.

Netflix unveiled a new teaser for Wit Studio’s Moonrise anime at its Tudum fan event on Sep 25, 2022. The anime will release exclusively on Netflix sometime in 2024.

A new special artwork by Hiromu Arakawa, the author of Fullmetal Alchemist, who is collaborating with original author Tow Ubukata to design the characters for the anime, was also revealed.

The teaser also revealed the key staff working on the anime, including the previously announced director of the series Masashi Koizuka.

Wit Studio will be animating Moonrise. The studio’s president and CEO George Wada described the project as follows when the anime adaptation was announced:

“Moonrise” will portray the lives of two men, Jack and Al, as they confront various hardships in the vast world of outer space. All action and scenery in the unexplored parts of the Moon will be illustrated using an innovative type of animation unlike any seen before. My sincere wish is that this project inspires contemporary lives everywhere.

Tow Ubukata is the pen name of a Japanese novelist and anime screenwriter. His major works include Mardock Scramble, Le Chevalier D’Eon, and Heroic Age. He also did the series composition for the Fafner in the Azure series, Ghost in the Shell: Arise, Psycho-Pass 2, and Psycho-Pass 3.

Ubukata released a free English prologue novel titled Moonrise on Amazon in December 2018. The novel was translated by Matt Treyvaud.
