Director Yasuhiro Kimura, who previously worked on the franchise, expressed his excitement about helming the project. “Steel Ball Run is a story that depicts characters running through a grand race, staking their own beliefs. My heart is pounding with excitement to be entrusted with directing this anime adaptation,” he said, adding that the staff is “pouring their passion into daily production” and looks forward to sharing that with viewers.

More details on the anime will be revealed on Sep 23, 2025, during a global livestream event hosted on Warner Bros. Japan’s official YouTube channel.

Hirohiko Araki first launched JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 1986. The franchise has since sold over 120 million copies worldwide and is known for its flamboyant art and iconic poses. The saga spans multiple generations of the Joestar bloodline, beginning with Jonathan Joestar and his fateful encounter with Dio Brando.

The series has inspired numerous adaptations, including anime, video games, musicals, and a live-action film.

Steel Ball Run, originally serialized from 2004 to 2011, shifts the series to 19th-century America. The story follows Johnny Joestar, a former genius jockey who is left paraplegic. He joins forces with Gyro Zeppeli, a mysterious outlaw, and the two enter the United States’ first cross-continental horse race.

Araki is currently serializing the ninth part of the manga, The JOJOLands, in Ultra Jump.

Previous anime adaptations of the series, produced by David Production, have been streamed internationally on Netflix, most recently with Stone Ocean.
