The live action movie My Broken Mariko based on the novel by Waka Hirako, will be exclusively available on Prime Video starting January 6, 2023.

Along with that, other theatrical movies which will be distributed from January are Teasing Master Takagi-San the Movie written by Yumemakura Baku and Yamamoto Soichiro, anime movie Hula Fulla Dance, anime movie A Crocodile Who Will Die in 100 Days written by Kikuchi Yuki, & anime movie Lupin the Third VS Cat’s Eye will also be distributed.

Further, the 26th Fantasia International Film Festival of Montreal recently announced on Twitter that INU-OH movie, Summer Ghost film, My Broken Mariko live-action movie, and Kappei film have won Satoshi Kon Best Animated Feature award, Special mention by Satoshi Kon Jury award, the Best Screenplay Award (Cheval Noir Competition), and the New Flesh Award for Best First Feature, respectively.

Yuki Tanada will be the director of My Broken Mariko, and Kosuke Mukai will be in charge of the script with Tanada. The film will be produced by Happinet Phantom Studio and Express and distributed by Kadokawa.

The cast includes:

  •  Mei Nagano as  Shiino
  • Nao as Mariko Ikagawa
  • Masataka Kubota as Makio, a young man Shiino meets on her journey
  • Toshinori Omi as Mariko’s father
  • Yō Yoshida as Kyōko Tamura, the second wife of Mariko’s father

Waka Hirako‘s My Broken Mariko was serialized for four episodes in KADOKAWA’s Comic BRIDGE online from July to December 2019 as Hirako’s first serialization work. It received a lot of attention after its one-volume tankobon was published in January 2020.

The manga won the New Face Award at the 24th Japan Media Arts Festival’s Manga Awards in 2021.

Yen Press published the English edition in November 2020. The publisher explains the story as:

Shiino is an ill-tempered office assistant, but when her friend Mariko dies unexpectedly, she becomes determined to get to the bottom of this mystery. Portraying the soulful connection between girls, this is a striking story of sisterhood and romance.

The official website of the upcoming crossover anime between Lupin The Third and Cat’s Eye, titled Lupin The 3rd vs Cat’s Eye started streaming an action packed trailer on Dec 6, 2022.

Moreover, a new key visual featuring Arsene Lupin III, Daisuke Jigen, Ai Kisugi, Rui Kisugi, and Hitomi Kisugi, among others was also revealed.

It was previously revealed that Kanichi Kurita and Keiko Toda will reprise their roles as Arsène Lupin III from Lupin III anime and Hitomi Kisugi from Cat’s Eye anime respectively.

Lupin The 3rd vs Cat’s Eye anime will be produced by TMS Entertainment.

Lupin III, also written as Lupin the Third, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Monkey Punch. It follows the endeavors of master thief Arsène Lupin III, the grandson of Arsène Lupin, the gentleman thief of Maurice Leblanc’s series of novels.

The Lupin III manga, which first appeared in Weekly Manga Action on Aug 10, 1967, spawned a media franchise that includes numerous manga, two versions of an animated pilot film, six animated television series, one spin-off animated television series, eleven theatrically released animated films, two live-action films, five OVA works, twenty-seven animated television specials, two musicals, many music CDs, and several video games.

Cat’s Eye is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tsukasa Hojo. It was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1981 to 1985, and collected into 18 tankōbon by Shueisha.

The story follows the adventures of the three Kisugi sisters — Hitomi, Rui and Ai, who are formidable art thieves trying to collect all the works belonging to their missing father.

The manga was made into a televised anime series originally broadcast in 1983 to 1984 on Nippon TV, with a second season ending in 1985. It has also received two live-action adaptations; a TV movie in 1988 and a theatrical film in 1997.
