The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released a list of 27 titles for the 95th Academy Awards on Dec 7, 2022, that were eligible to be considered for nomination in the Animated Feature Film category. And among the 27 titles were three anime movies.
The following anime movies are eligible to be nominated for the Oscars:
Drifting Home
Drifting Home is an anime movie co-written and directed by Hiroyasu Ishida and animated by Studio Colorido. The plot follows two childhood friends, who drift into the sea along with the mysterious housing complex they were in.
Goodbye, Don Glees!
Goodbye, Don Glees! is an anime movie directed by Atsuko Ishizuka and animated by Madhouse. The movie follows teen misfits Roma, Toto, and Drop, who set out to prove their innocence after being blamed for a nearby forest fire.
Inu-Oh
Inu-Oh is an anime movie directed by Masaaki Yuasa and animated (produced) by Sciencce SARU. The film is set in 14th century Japan and centers on the friendship between Inu-Oh, a dancer born with unique physical characteristics, and Tomona, a blind musician as they propel themselves to stardom.

Out of the 27 titles, the Academy members will vote and select 5 nominees, which will be announced on Jan 24, 2023. The Academy Awards will be held on March 12, 2023 at the Ovation Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre.
Mamoru Hosoda’ Belle and Kotaro Tamura’s Josee, the Tiger and the Fish and five other anime films were in consideration for the 94th Academy Awards last year. However, none of them earned a nomination.
