Look Back has been named the highest-rated animated film of 2024 in Letterboxd’s Year in Review.
GKIDS, the North American distributor, celebrated the film’s feat with a post on its official X account, noting its impressive rankings in various categories.
Look Back was not only the highest-rated animated film of the year on the platform but also ranked #4 in the highest rated overall film category, and #2 highest-rated Asian film.
Coming back to the Highest Rated Animation category, other anime films that made it to the list include Haikyu: Dumpster Battle, which took the #3 spot, and Mononoke the Movie: The Phantom in the Rain at #7.

Look Back anime film was released in the Japanese theatres on June 28, 2024. It grossed US$2 million in Japan and US$10.7 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of US$12.7 million.
Though it had a limited release, the movie earned over a billion yen in the box office by the third week of its release.
Studio Duran was in charge of the anime film’s production, while Kiyotaka Oshiyama directed, handled the screenplay and also the character designs for Look Back.
The director had previously hinted that he is aiming to create Look Back film differently from the manga.
Look Back is a Japanese one-shot web manga written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto. It was published on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ in July 2021.
