LiSA’s Demon Slayer OP Gurenge Bags Major Award For The Second Time In A Row

"Gurenge" has been recognized as the most profitable song of 2021 in Japan.

The official website for the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers, and Publishers (JASRAC) announced that LiSA’s Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba opening theme titled “Gurenge” won the Gold Award this year again at the 40th JASRAC Awards.

Winning the award means “Gurenge” has been recognized as the most profitable song of 2021 in Japan.

The Silver Award too was bagged by LiSA’s for her theme song “Homura” from the 2020 anime film Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train

LiSA thanked her audience saying, “I am very honored that so many people have loved my songs for so long, as they did last year. May our future be as bright as the lotus flowers that bloom from the surface of the water toward the sun.”

“Gurenge” features in LiSA’s fifth studio album Leo-Nine. It was released as her fifteenth single digitally on April 22, 2019, and received a physical release on July 3, 2019.

Commercially, the single peaked at number three on the Oricon Singles Chart, and number two on Billboard Japan Hot 100. LiSA ‘s “Gurenge” ranked 96th in the “Oricon Weekly Single Ranking” in May, making it feature in the Top 100 for 100 consecutive weeks.

The number of songs registered with JASRAC in 2021 was 2,826,076. The number of rights holders to be distributed is 76,252 authors and 2,895 music publishers, including distribution through music publishers.

The JASRAC Awards recognize the achievements and honors of the authors, composers, and music publishers of works such as music distribution, karaoke, and CM that had a large distribution of copyrighted material usage fees from JASRAC in the previous year. This year marks the 40th time the awards took place, since it was founded in 1982.
