LEGO has launched a special Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters–themed building challenge that invites fans to recreate iconic anime moments with LEGO bricks, with the grand prize winner having their creation turned into an official LEGO Ideas set.
Announced on LEGO’s official website as “It’s Time to Duel! – Challenge Announcement,” the contest asks participants to design builds based specifically on the Battle City and Duelist Kingdom tournament arcs.
LEGO emphasized that submissions must showcase only duels, characters, and monsters that appeared in those episodes of the anime.
Participants can approach the challenge in three main ways.
They may create display models featuring a famous duelist and their trademark monster or monsters; construct dynamic dioramas that faithfully recreate a duel between two iconic characters as seen in the anime; or design a creatively curated monster build presented in a unique display format.
The builds must contain a minimum of 400 pieces and may not exceed 2,000 pieces.
Participants may build using physical bricks or digital tools such as Bricklink Studio or other third-party LEGO CAD software. Image editing tools like Photoshop are permitted, but photos must be clear, well-lit, neutral in background, and free from clutter, people, animals, or text overlays.
AI-generated artwork or copywriting is explicitly prohibited. Submissions cannot rely on third-party platforms like YouTube; any videos must be uploaded directly to LEGO’s platform during submission. Entrants must provide at least four and no more than 10 high-resolution photos (minimum 1080 x 720 pixels) showing all angles and features of their build, along with a title and short description.
More details on the rules can be read here.
The submission must be completed and uploaded by March 10.
The grand prize winner will also receive formal credit and compensation in line with LEGO’s Product Ideas Guidelines and Terms of Service. This includes 1% of the total net sales of the final product, 10 complimentary copies of the set, and official recognition as the LEGO Ideas Fan Designer.
Apart from the grand prize, entries chosen to advance to the Fan Vote stage, but not selected as the final winner, will also receive rewards.
