Kingdom Anime Season 3 Delayed Due To COVID-19 Concerns In Japan

The official website of Kingdom anime announced that the show will be going on a hiatus from the 5th episode of Season 3 due to the effects of emergency declared in Japan. According to the latest update the anime will resume broadcast in Spring 2021!

The season 3 of Kingdom anime will be delayed from the fifth episode which was supposed to air on 3rd May 2020. The activities of the production team were greatly affected due to the emergency declared in Japan to stall the spreading of COVID-19 virus.

“The TV anime ‘Kingdom’, which has been on air since April, was being produced with sufficient preparation time,” the message on the official website of the anime read. “We had to postpone the broadcast because it had a big impact on the production schedule we were doing.”

The fourth episode of season 3 will be broadcast as scheduled on April 26, 2020, Sunday. The new date of broadcast will be announced on the website and the official twitter account of the anime once it has been decided.

Japan is currently under a state of emergency which covers the whole country. The emergency allows prefectural governors to request certain businesses, like movie theatres and others with a risk of large gatherings, to close down. The emergency has severely affected the anime industry in Japan with a lot of shows being delayed and going on hiatus due to health and safety concerns of the staff and crew.

Based on the record setting historical manga created by Yasuhisa Hara, the story of Kingdom anime follows slave boy Xin, who dreams of becoming a great general for the state of Qin. Xin helps Ying Zheng, the young Qin king who shares his desire to unify China, rise to power within the state.

The manga has also inspired a live action film by Shinsuke Sato which released last year in Japan.
