The 40th-anniversary celebrations will see all six volumes of the series updated with new cover designs.

Endo shared his joy at participating in the project, recalling how revisiting the story revealed depths of warmth and kindness he hadn’t noticed as a younger reader.

Congratulations on the 40th anniversary of Kiki’s Delivery Service! In preparing to draw the illustration, I reread the work for the first time since middle school, and I was deeply moved by all the kindness and warmth I had missed back then. I’m so honored and happy to be involved in such a wonderful and long-loved work. Thank you so much to Eiko Kadono and Fukuinkan Shoten for this amazing opportunity.

Author Eiko Kadono also expressed her gratitude to fans, stating, “It has been 40 years since the first volume of Kiki’s Delivery Service was published in 1985. I am truly blessed that the story has been loved by so many for so long. I extend my deepest gratitude to everyone, along with Kiki and, of course, Jiji. Thank you! In this special anniversary year, Tatsuya Endo, a popular manga artist, has illustrated a cover for the paperback edition. Enjoy Kiki flying through the night sky, brimming with energy! There’s also a campaign where you can win wonderful gifts.

Kiki’s Delivery Service is a children’s fantasy novel written by Eiko Kadono and illustrated by Akiko Hayashi. It was first published by Fukuinkan Shoten on January 25, 1985.

It is the basis of the 1989 Studio Ghibli anime film of the same title and of the 2014 live action film also of the same name.
