The Netflix Festival Japan 2021, on Tuesday, announced a Kakegurui spin-off anime titled Kakegurui Twin scheduled for August 2022.

It is a prequel that will focus on Mary Saotome, 1 year before Yumeko Jabami transferred to the Hyakkaou Private Academy, and studio MAPPA will handle the production, just like with seasons 1 and 2 of the original anime.

The anime is based on the spinoff manga of Homura Kawamoto and Tōru Naomura’s Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler manga. The spinoff launched in Square Enix’s Gangan Joker in September 2015.

A year before Yumeko Jabami graced the hallowed halls of Hyakkou Private Academy, Mary Saotome got her own start at the gambling-addicted school. Can this normal girl achieve her own rags-to-riches story through wits and luck?
