Anime references if done right can instantly push the fandom into a craze. It is an anime’s doorway to success (look at us exaggerating). Kaguya Sama Season 2 gained a lot of clout for doing so recently. And this time it is MAPPA who is hitting all the right notes in Jujutsu Kaisen after they cleverly made Naruto, Dragon Ball, Bleach and Yu Yu Hakusho references in the latest episode.

Yuji Itadori is a degenerate weeb (just like the rest of us)!!!

After Itadori’s “oh-so-surprising” revival, Gojou Satoru takes him under his wings to make him stronger. This is a sentiment that Itadori shares with him too. However, getting stronger means gaining better control over cursed energy and putting into use with the help of cursed technique.

But Yuji being an outsider to the world of Jujutsu, he has no grasp on what these terms meant. After Gojou gives a brief rundown on the terms, Itadori is all fired up to learn a cool cursed technique.

However, to his disappointment, Itadori does not seem to have any natural talent for using Cursed Techniques. This breaks Yuji’s heart beyond repair.

When Yuji came to know what cursed techniques were, he dreamt of pulling off a Rasengan, or Bankai or Kamehameha, or a Sprit Gun or even a Dodon Ray. If you are an anime fan like Yuji, you’d straight off come to know that these are some of the famous power attacks that we see in mainstream anime like Naruto, Dragon Ball, Yu Yu Hakusho and Bleach.

The reason why this reference stands out is because, the way it comes up in the story is relatable. Yuji’s dreams are very similar to ours. As anime fans, we all have dreamt of pulling off these epic moves atleast once.

This is not the first time Jujutsu Kaisen has made references to real life pop culture in the anime. In the past, Itadori had admitted that he loved girls like Jennifer Lawrence. The previous episode (Episode 5) also made a Smash Bros reference in relation to the upcoming exchange event that is coming up in the anime.
