Jujutsu Kaisen Stage Play Cancels Shows After Itadori’s Actor Injures Himself

Two shows have been cancelled till now, with the status of upcoming shows to be announced soon.

The official website of Jujutsu Kaisen stage play announced that its shows at Osaka had to be cancelled after Ryuji Sato, the actor who plays Yuji Itadori in the play, injured himself during the rehearsals.

Sato injured his arm during the rehearsal process. Though he was immediately given medical attention, the pain in his arm had not subsided, forcing the showrunners to cancel the first show that was set to take place at 6:00 p.m. on Aug 4, 2022.

After a detailed medical examination, it was found that Sato was suffering from severe neuralgia. This made the production committee cancel the show at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Aug 5, 2022, also.

The status of the upcoming shows will be announced on Aug 6, 2022.

“As a result of discussing with the production committee, giving top priority to the physical condition of the person himself, we will cancel the performance at 18:00 today, August 5th (Friday). We deeply apologize for the inconvenience and concern this may cause to those who have been looking forward to the performance,” the announcement read.

The customers who bought tickets for Jujutsu Kaisen stage play shows on Thursday and Friday will get a refund due to the show being cancelled. Details of the refund procedure will be announced on the website soon.

Jujutsu Kaisen‘s stage play, based on the manga by Gege Akutami, premiered on July 15, 2022, at ‘The Galaxy Theatre‘ in Tokyo, where it performed till July 31, 2022. It was scheduled to start performing at Osaka from Aug 4, 2022, with shows running till Aug 14, 2022.

The stage play consists of two acts, in which it covers the events of ‘Cursed Child Arc’, ‘Fearsome Womb Arc’, ‘Cursed Training Arc’ and ‘vs. Mahito Arc’ from the Jujutsu Kaisen manga.

Kensaku Kobayashi is directing the stage play, with Kohei Kiyasu handling the screenplay. The stage play was organized by the Jujutsu Kaisen production committee.
