Inu-Oh, The Simpson’s Death Note Spoof Episode & Others Nominated For Annie Awards

Overseas anime Oni: Thunder God's Tale by Tonko House, a California based company, was nominated for several categories.

The 50th Annual Annie Awards nominees were revealed on January 16, by the International Animated Film Society, ASIFA-Hollywood. The nominees include Inu-Oh by Masaaki Yuasa which was nominated for Best Indie Feature film and Best Writing- Feature.

Furthermore, Death Note spoof episode, Treehouse of Horror XXXIII, of The Simpsons’ show was nominated for Best TV/Media- Mature content. The episode was created by South Korean animation studio DR. DR has been part of several anime productions as well as Madhouse’s Death Note series.

The other nominees for Best Indie Feature and Best Writing-Feature are:

  • Little Nicholas, Happy As Can Be
  • Marcel the Shell with Shoes On
  • My Father’s Dragon

Best Writing – Feature

  • Disney and Pixar’s Turning Red

  • Marcel the Shell with Shoes On

Also, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners by Studio Trigger’s was also nominated in the Best Storyboarding- TV/Media category. Whereas, Exception by Tatsunoko Production was nominated in the Best Direction- TV/Media Category.

Overseas anime Oni: Thunder God’s Tale by Tonko House, a California based company, was nominated in Best TV/Media – Limited Series, Best Character Animation – TV/Media, Best Direction – TV/Media, Best Character Design – TV/Media , Best Music – TV/Media, Best Production Design – TV/Media categories. The series is a CGI animated series.

The Annie Awards are given to works for outstanding achievement in animation industry. Mamoru Hosoda’s Mirai movie won the award in 2019.

On February 25, the awards ceremony will be held at UCLA’s Royce Hall.

No anime received honours in 2017.
