Interview Promoting Naruto In India Gets The Name Of The Anime Wrong

It also substituted Naruto's favourite dish, Ramen, with noodles.

Naruto anime hit the Indian shores on Aug 15, 2022, airing on Sony Yay in five regional languages across the country. To commemorate this, ad promotions were being run, one of which features prominent Indian celebrity Esha Deol.

Subsequently, ABP News’ ‘Saas Bahu Aur Saazish’ segment roped the actress in for an interview on her new assignment and also to delve more into Naruto and its airing in India.

However, this particular interview managed to get the name of the anime wrong, not once, but multiple times during its run time.

The segment’s host, Aditi Rao Sawant, started off by pronouncing the protagonist’s name Naruto as “Narito”, asking viewers if they had heard the name of this particular Japanese animated character.

Self proclaimed Naruto fan, Esha Deol, too erred in saying the anime’s name, saying that she was excited to watch “Nuruto” together with her daughters.

Deol was explaining how big of a Naruto fan she was, and expressing her joy at the anime being aired again in India when this happened.

The biggest blunder though has to be ABP News bluntly putting up the name of the show as “Naroto” rather than Naruto.

While, the mistakes can be attributed to a general lack of awareness about the show, the news channel was also criticized for not double checking the details and information before putting such a video out, as getting Naruto‘s name wrong was not the only blunder they committed.

Fans in particular were disappointed that the segment substituted Ramen, Naruto’s favorite dish from the series, with Noodles in the promotion, and also for calling the Japanese anime a mere cartoon.

“Esha is sometimes welcoming [her guests] home dressed up as Naruto, while other times eating Noodles just like Naruto,” the narrator said in the segment.

Interesting thing to note is, though the segment states that Esha welcomes people home dressed up as Naruto, she is clearly seen wearing the costume of Itachi as an Akatsuki member. Ardent fans would also point out that she wore Itachi/Sasuke’s headband with Naruto’s robes.

They were of the opinion that Esha Deol too was only doing the video for promotional purposes, and was not actually an anime fan.

The segment premiered on Aug 12, 2022.

Indian television channel, Sony Yay, revealed through their promotional videos for Naruto anime that they will begin broadcasting the anime starting Aug 15, 2022. The anime is airing on the channel at 8.00 p.m. IST.

Naruto is a manga series written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto. The series is based on two one-shot manga by Kishimoto; Karakuri (1995), which earned Kishimoto an honorable mention in Shueisha’s monthly Hop Step Award the following year, and Naruto (1997).

Naruto was serialized in Shueisha’s magazine, Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1999 to 2014, and released in tankōbon (book) form in 72 volumes.

The manga was adapted into an anime television series produced by Pierrot and Aniplex, which broadcast 220 episodes in Japan from 2002 to 2007; the English dub of the series aired on Cartoon Network and YTV from 2005 to 2009. Naruto: Shippuden, a sequel to the original series, premiered in Japan in 2007, and ended in 2017, after 500 episodes.

Viz Media licensed the manga and anime for North American production and serialized Naruto in their digital Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. The anime series began airing in the United States and Canada in 2005, and in the United Kingdom and Australia in 2006 and 2007, respectively.

The films and most OVAs from the series were also released by Viz, with the first film premiering in movie theaters. The story of Naruto continues with Naruto’s son, Boruto Uzumaki, in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations: Boruto wishes to create his own ninja way instead of following his father’s.
