While the norm these days is Jojo references, the intellectuals who scripted the latest episode of Kaguya Sama: Love is War went one step ahead and referenced Bakemonogatari in one of its scenes. The fans were quick to notice this and the reference is now the talk of the town (or the internet).
Here’s a tweet which compares both the scenes side by side. After seeing this clip, there is no arguing that it indeed was influenced by Bakemonogatari.
However, the similarities weren’t just in the scenes, as AniTrendz pointed out that even the script illustration of Kaguya Sama: Season 2 Episode 4 took a leaf out from the cult anime. There are definitely some die-hard Monogatari fans in A-1 studios.
While some fans were quick to catch on to the reference, some totally missed it and were in awe when they realised it later!
Another set of fans, who had not seen the monogatari series were intrigued by how everyone went crazy over the reference.
“I actually really liked the aesthetic of this scene in Kaguya sama , you’re telling me all of monogatari looks like this ?,” a fan tweeted.
“Man kaguya–sama keeps dropping monogatari references, it might be time for a rewatch,” another fan wrote.
Some of these people sure might start watching Monogatari now!
Mongatari series centres around Koyomi Araragi, a third-year high school student who survives a vampire attack and subsequently finds himself helping girls involved with a variety of apparitions, deities, ghosts, beasts, spirits, and other supernatural phenomena.
