The official website of the Inio Asano’s Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction anime revealed on Aug 31, 2023, that the previously announced adaptation would be an anime film, which is split into two parts.

Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction anime film is set to release in Spring 2024.

A visual illustrated by character designer and chief animation director Nobutaka Ito has also been unveiled to commemorate the announcement.

Tomoyuki Kurokawa will be directing the films, with Reiko Yoshida in charge of scripts. Nobutake Ito will serve as character designer and chief animation director, and Mika Nishimura as the art director. Taro Umebayashi will compose music.

Reiko Yoshida:

Everyone, unable to even grasp the future or even tomorrow, must continue living in the present. Such uncertain and uneasy moments keep unfolding. To endure such days, it might be necessary to have someone, something, to live alongside.
Perhaps the characters that appear in this work understand this unconsciously.
I hope that you can spend some time with these girls who live in the unseen present, even if only for a brief moment.

Nobutake Ito:

Regarding the characters, we received input from Mr. Asano for correcting differences in interpretation and also suggestions for new elements. This has resulted in new designs while preserving the atmosphere of the original work. I hope you’ll pay attention to these aspects as well.

Mika Nishimura:

As someone who particularly loves the backgrounds in Mr. Asano’s works, I was truly hesitant about taking on this project. However, I wanted to see a piece that doesn’t compromise the original world while keeping the perspective of a fan in mind.
We’re in the midst of production with the best team, who love the original work. I would be delighted if you could also enjoy the main story’s backgrounds.

Taro Umebayashi:

Being involved in a work that is loved by so many fans is truly a humbling experience. I am determined to contribute to this project in a way that aligns with the feelings Mr. Asano has poured into the work.

As previously revealed, Production +h. will be producing the anime films. This will be the first ever anime adaptation of Inio Asano’s works.

Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Inio Asano. It was serialized in Shogakukan’s seinen manga magazine Big Comic Spirits from April 2014 to February 2022, with its chapters collected in 12 tankōbon volumes. In North America, Viz Media licensed the manga for English release.

By March 2022, Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction had over 3 million copies in circulation. In 2021, the manga won the 66th Shogakukan Manga Award in the general category, as well as the Excellence Award of the 25th Japan Media Arts Festival in 2022.
