Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konatรฉ went viral on Saturday, April 16, 2022, after he made a reference to manga author Hajime Isayama‘s Attack on Titan series while celebrating his goal against Manchester City in the FA Cup at the Wembley Stadium. Liverpool won the match 3-2.
After the game on Sunday, the Parisian posted an image of himself embracing his “otaku” side striking a “Shinzou wo sasageyo” pose used by the Scout Regiment of Attack on Titan on Twitter. The tweet went viral in no time with tons of comments and over 171K likes.
He also shared video of his goal on his Instagram, accompanied by the song โLONDONโ by BIA and J. Cole, and the caption โFINAL! ๐๐๐ #YNWAโ
In fact, this is not the first time Konate has shown his love for Japan’s subculture. Before appearing for the match, the player posted a GIF from โDragon Ball Zโ hyping up for the final. The defender also openly admitted he loves anime and does not miss the opportunity to exploit references to anime in his posts.
Ibrahima Konatรฉ (born 25 May 1999) is a French professional footballer who plays as a center-back for Premier League club Liverpool.
Starting off with Sochaux, Konatรฉ moved to Leipzig in 2017 and Liverpool in 2021.
