Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté went viral on Saturday, April 16, 2022, after he made a reference to manga author Hajime Isayama‘s Attack on Titan series while celebrating his goal against Manchester City in the FA Cup at the Wembley Stadium. Liverpool won the match 3-2.
After the game on Sunday, the Parisian posted an image of himself embracing his “otaku” side striking a “Shinzou wo sasageyo” pose used by the Scout Regiment of Attack on Titan on Twitter. The tweet went viral in no time with tons of comments and over 171K likes.
He also shared video of his goal on his Instagram, accompanied by the song ‘LONDON’ by BIA and J. Cole, and the caption ‘FINAL! 😍😍😍 #YNWA’
In fact, this is not the first time Konate has shown his love for Japan’s subculture. Before appearing for the match, the player posted a GIF from ‘Dragon Ball Z’ hyping up for the final. The defender also openly admitted he loves anime and does not miss the opportunity to exploit references to anime in his posts.
