Hideaki Sorachi’s debut one-shot manga Dandelion, which was published in 2002, is receiving an anime adaptation that will stream exclusively on Netflix worldwide in April.

Dandelion follows Tetsuo Tanba and Misaki Kurogane, members of the Japanese Angel Federation’s Send-Off Department. Assigned to the 21st Division’s Dandelion Clan, the duo is responsible for locating earthbound spirits and facilitating their transition to the afterlife. While other units within the federation prioritize the rapid closure of cases, Tanba and Kurogane focus on resolving the specific regrets of each soul before sending them off.

The anime adaptation will consist of seven episodes and will incorporate additional original content, including previously untold details about Tanba and Kurogane’s past that were not depicted in the original manga.

Dandelion anime is directed by Daisuke Mataga, with series composition by Yosuke Suzuki and animation production handled by NAZ.

A teaser visual released alongside the announcement shows Tanba and Kurogane riding together on a bicycle. It was also revealed that Yoshihiro Kobayashi voices Tanba, while Megumi Han plays Kurogane.

Director Mataga described feeling both excitement and pressure while adapting the work, expressing hope that fans of Sorachi’s later titles as well as newcomers will enjoy the series.

According to animation producer Yasuo Suda, he first received the proposal for the project in 2020. He noted that the production moved forward gradually, beginning with the script and continuing through the other phases including animation and sound.

We were able to carefully produce this work over a long period with highly passionate creators. I really love the atmosphere that Sorachi-sensei’s Dandelion evokes. For this adaptation as well, an outstanding staff brought their talents together in every section to create that same atmosphere. I hope you will watch the anime Dandelion,” Suda noted.

Meanwhile, Sorachi commented on the adaptation with his characteristic humor, stating, “I don’t usually reread my debut work because it’s embarrassing, but Netflix has dug it up, animated it, and expanded on it. Apparently, the word ‘delicacy’ doesn’t exist at Netflix. But since this is happening, maybe I’ll go visit those guys again after 20 years.
