Fans Reiterate That Fire Force Manga Is A Prequel To Soul Eater

The chapter 303 featured the character Excalibur in its final panels.

After leaks from Atsushi Ōkubo‘s Fire Force Chapter 303 surfaced online, fans reiterated that the series was a prequel of Okubo’s previous work, Soul Eater.

The chapter titled “A World Without Spontaneous Human Combustion” featured the character Excalibur in its final panels. In the Soul Eater franchise, Excalibur is a sentient “Legendary Holy Sword”.

Not long after the chapter was released, both the manga started trending on Twitter with fans pointing out that Fire Force has too many references, suggesting that the manga is a prequel Soul Eater.

Additionally, Fire Force fans also got introduced to the witch Inca who tends to have a resemblance with Soul Eater’s witch character Kim Diehl.


Fire Force manga came to an end in issue 13 of Weekly Shonen Magazine, as Ōkubo passed the baton to ex-assistant Kei Urana, who’s Gachi Akuta started serialization in the same magazine on Feb 16, 2022.

This is not the first time Ōkubo fans have found similarities between the two mangas. Previously, both anime watchers and manga readers found a few easter eggs in the series like the Soul Eater‘s Grinning Moon and Sun in Fire Force; showed the cross-universe connections.

Fire Force is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Atsushi Ōkubo. It has been serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine since September 2015, with its chapters collected in thirty-two tankōbon volumes as of December 2021.

An anime television series adaptation by David Production aired from July to December 2019 on the MBS’s Super Animeism block. A second season aired from July to December 2020. The anime television series has been licensed by Funimation.

As of June 2021, the Fire Force manga had over 16 million copies in circulation. The manga’s final chapter will be released within Weekly Shōnen Magazine’s 13th issue on Feb 22, 2022.
