It is no secret that One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda has been putting in serious efforts behind the scenes when it comes to Netflix’s live action adaptation of his series.
From visiting the sets, to giving inputs in casting and story, Oda’s presence has been there in the production one way or the other.
At Jump Festa 2025, the author addressed the reasoning behind his commitment to the live-action adaptation of One Piece manga.

In his statement, he noted how fans often questioned him about why a live-action adaptation for the already well known series was necessary.
In response to that, Oda emphasized the desire to expand the series’ reach beyond the established manga and anime fanbase.
He saw the live-action series as part of a broader effort to bring One Piece into new spaces and reach an even larger audience.
“People often ask me, ‘One Piece is already popular worldwide, so why go through the effort of making a live-action adaptation now?‘” Oda remarked. “Well, the global manga and anime industries already know about One Piece to a significant extent. But if someone tells you there’s an even bigger playground out there, wouldn’t you want to explore it?!”
The author further reassured fans that his dedication extends, not just to the live action adaptation, but across all mediums of the franchise.
“That’s why we’re putting our all into everything—the original manga, the anime, the movies, and the live-action adaptation!”
Oda also teased a variety of projects and announcements for the coming year, encouraging fans to stay tuned for more updates.
He confirmed the return of the One Piece TV anime, which will resume with a framework “suited to the times” to make it even easier for audiences to enjoy.
