Oh well, looks like it is too soon to celebrate Dua Lipa‘s worldwide hit “Levitating”, as the artist debuted with a dazzling new animated music video for the song.
It transports viewers into the glitzy and sparkly aesthetic of the 1980s/1990s anime of Sailor Moon, Creamy Mami, and more.
NOSTALOOK, an animation group that specializes in creating works reminiscent of retro Japanese anime, turned the artist into a retro-styled Dua Lipa as she sings the song on stage.
Yu Tsubaki was the creative director of the video, with Kenta Orisaka as the art director and writer, nailing that pure 80s hyper neon style perfectly, and finally Yuta Ueno as the MV’s producer.
NOSTALOOK had also previously done a retro anime-style short for Overwatch, promoting an in-game event featuring Ashe, B.O.B, and the soon-to-be-renamed McCree.
Warner Records released “Levitating” on March 27, 2020, as a track on the Future Nostalgia album. It was released as a single on October 1, 2020. The theme of the album is “nostalgic” pop and disco.
Warner Music Japan also recently produced an anime music video for Ed Sheeran’s “Bad Habits” song last month.
