Boichi, the illustrator of Dr. STONE manga, announced that he will stop publishing his manga pages and illustrations on X following the platform’s newly introduced AI-related update, citing concerns over how his work could be used without his consent or proper compensation.
In a message addressed to fans on X, Boichi said the decision was made “with a heavy and broken heart,” explaining that while he supports the future of artificial intelligence and its creative potential, he cannot accept his works being learned from or exploited without approval.
Boichi emphasized that the decision does not mean he is leaving the platform. He said he will remain active on X, continue sharing news, and keep communicating with fans, but will no longer post his artwork there. Instead, he plans to publish his comics and illustrations on Instagram.
The artist said he hopes to resume sharing his artwork on X in the future, should conditions change.
His announcement comes as X has introduced a new AI-powered image editing feature that allows users to modify images posted on the platform.

To my beloved fans,
It is with a heavy and broken heart that I write these words.
As many of you may already know, this decision comes from the newly updated feature on X.
For the time being, I will pause the publication of my comics and illustrations on X.
I want to be clear:
I do not fear AI.
In fact, I believe in its future and the possibilities it may bring.
However, I cannot accept my works being used, learned from, or exploited without my consent or proper compensation.I care deeply about X.
Together with my Canadian friend—who helps translate my words into English and shares with me the voices and stories of fans from overseas—we have worked hard to build something meaningful here.
This place has given us precious experiences and memories.Precisely because I like X, and because I believe it can become a good place for the future of manga, I have shared my most valuable works here.
For now, I will stop posting my comics and illustrations on X.
Instead, I will begin sharing my comics and illustrations on Instagram.
Please understand—this does not mean I am leaving X.
I will remain here, continue sharing news, and continue talking with you.I simply will not posting my art works here for the time being.

Boichi
Boichi is best known as the artist of Dr. STONE, the manga series written by Riichiro Inagaki. The series was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from March 2017 to March 2022, and its chapters were later collected into 27 tankobon volumes.
He is currently working on The Marshal King, a new manga series that began serialization in February 2025 on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ digital platform.
