The official website of Dorohedoro anime revealed a new update for the second season of the anime on Jan 12, 2025. This new update marked the fifth anniversary of the anime’s original broadcast.
The new update in question is a brand new teaser visual, which comprises the storyboard from the sequels scattered throughout.
Additionally, the teaser visual also confirmed that Dorohedoro Season 2 will be releasing in 2025.
The exact release date, however, is yet to be announced. Check out the teaser visual below:

Yuichiro Hayashi will be returning to direct the sequel at MAPPA. According to the announcement on the website, the remaining staff members too will be reprising their roles for the anime’s second season.
“Thank you all for waiting so long! The anime Dorohedoro is finally coming back! This time, it’s even more chaotic, anarchic, and slasher-like! We’re powering up even further,” Yuichiro Hayashi said in his message. “For those who haven’t watched Dorohedoro yet or think it looks scary, there’s still time before the new season starts streaming! Please check out the previous season and step into its comedic, chaotic world!“
Dorohedoro‘s season 2 was announced last year in January. However, fans had to wait for this long before getting a concrete release date, and a new teaser visual.
The first season of the anime, produced by MAPPA, was broadcast in Japan on Tokyo MX from January to March 2020. It was followed by a worldwide streaming release on Netflix in May 2020.
Dorohedoro is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Q Hayashida. It was serialized in Shogakukan’s manga magazines Monthly Ikki (November 2000 to September 2014), Hibana (March 2015 to August 2017), and Monthly Shonen Sunday (November 2017 to September 2018); its chapters were collected in 23 tankobon volumes.
MyAnimeList describes the plot of the series as:
Hole—a dark, decrepit, and disorderly district where the strong prey on the weak and death is an ordinary occurrence—is all but befitting of the name given to it. A realm separated from law and ethics, it is a testing ground to the magic users who dominate it. As a race occupying the highest rungs of their society, the magic users think of the denizens of Hole as no more than insects. Murdered, mutilated, and made experiments without a second thought, the powerless Hole dwellers litter the halls of Hole’s hospital on a daily basis.
Possessing free access to and from the cesspool, and with little challenge to their authority, the magic users appear indomitable to most—aside for a few. Caiman, more reptile than man, is one such individual. He hunts them on a heedless quest for answers with only a trusted pair of bayonets and his immunity to magic. Cursed by his appearance and tormented by nightmares, magic users are his only clue to restoring his life to normal. With his biggest obstacle being his stomach, his female companion Nikaidou, who runs the restaurant Hungry Bug, is his greatest ally.
Set in a gritty world of hellish design, Dorohedoro manages a healthy blend of comedy and lightheartedness with death and carnage. Taking plenty of twists and turns while following the lives of Hole’s residents, it weaves a unique world of unearthly origin and dreary appearance not for the squeamish or easily disturbed.
