Demon Slayer: Mugen Train has officially overtaken Makoto Shinkai’s movie “Your Name” in the Japanese box office. This has made the Demon Slayer movie the second-highest-grossing anime movie in Japan.
The Demon Slayer movie recently broke the Japanese box office records even amidst Covid-19 lockdown. The only movie which Mugen Train hasn’t surpassed yet is Spirited Away by Studio Ghibli. However, Spirited Away’s director Hayao Miyazaki had said that he is unaffected by the bullet speed of the Mugen Train movie.
A new trailer was launched for the movie recently in order to celebrate its success in Japanese Box Office. The trailer focuses on the fight between Rengoku and Upper Moon 3 Akaza.
UFOTABLE is trying to lure the audience to the theatre by giving away “freebies” to the fans. This might be with a view to surpassing Spirited Away. The Ghibli movie has approximately earned 30.8 billion yen whereas Mugen Train has earned 25.2 billion yen.
It is speculated that the Mugen Train movie might not cover the gap between the two movies by the end of the year. This will let Spirited Away continue its 19 years-long run of being the highest-grossing anime movie ever.
