In a record-shattering performance, the upcoming Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle movie has reportedly become the highest-grossing anime film in India based on pre-sales alone.
The highly anticipated movie has already surpassed the lifetime box office collections of previous anime hits days before its scheduled theatrical debut on Sep 12, 2025.
The box office data comes from user mejat32 on X (formerly Twitter), who has been tracking the film’s pre-release ticket sales. Tickets went live in India on Sept. 5 for select IMAX and 4DX locations, and within 24 hours, the film had already sold approximately 60,000 tickets.
Within three days, advance ticket sales crossed ₹5 crore, prompting theaters to schedule special IMAX screenings as early as 5 a.m.
By Sep 8, the film had crossed ₹15 crore (approximately $1.8 million) in pre-sales, with more than two days still remaining before its official release.
This figure is expected to grow, with the user’s projections suggesting the final pre-sales could exceed ₹25 crore.
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has already surpassed the previous top-grossing Japanese films in the country, Makoto Shinkai’s Suzume no Tojimari and Jujutsu Kaisen 0, both of which earned approximately ₹10 crore during their entire theatrical runs.
The film surpassed this milestone through pre-sales alone, indicating a massive and unprecedented demand from Indian audiences. The sales have been strong not just for the opening weekend but also for subsequent weekdays, as many regular cinema screens had yet to even open their bookings.
The film’s extraordinary performance in India is reflective of a larger global trend of record-breaking success for the franchise. In its home country of Japan, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Arc recently became the fastest film to gross over 30 billion yen and is on track to potentially surpass the all-time record set by its predecessor, Mugen Train.
The movie has also smashed box office records in multiple other Asian territories during its theatrical run. Furthermore, this success extends to the West, where the film also broke pre-sale records in the United States, as it turns into a worldwide box-office juggernaut.
The Infinity Castle Arc is one of the final and most action-packed sagas in the Demon Slayer story. It follows the Demon Slayer Corps as they launch their final, all-out assault on the constantly shifting fortress of their ultimate nemesis, Muzan Kibutsuji, and his remaining Upper-Rank demons.
The upcoming film is the first part of a planned movie trilogy that will adapt this climactic arc.
