Chapter 202 of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba manga is finally out and it may have ended up killing a character from the demon slayer corps who is close to the fan’s hearts.

Demon Slayer manga has gone through a lot of twists and turns in the past few chapters. Fans must have thought that things would come to a peaceful end after Muzan was defeated by the combined efforts of the Hashira and other members of the Demon slayer corps including Tanjirou, Zenitsu, Kanao and Inosuke. However, things went downhill from that point as we find out that Muzan converted Tanjirou into a demon in his final moments. 

Tasked with the objective of killing and destroying the demon slayer corps, Tanjirou goes on a rampage, attacking everyone near him in the previous chapter.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Chapter 202 spoilers:

In the latest chapter of Demon Slayer we witness a saddening role reversal, as Nezuko, who has now turned into a human and regained her memories, tries to stop Tanjirou, a demon, from attacking his friends and comrades. The situation gets so bad that at point, Giyuu Tomioka contemplates killing Tanjirou in order to stop him.

The story is high on emotion as Nezuko calls out to her brother and asks him to stop the violence in vain. She is joined by Zenitsu and Inosuke, who plead him to not give in to his demonic senses. However, all their pleas fall on deaf ears as Tanjirou continues to attack everyone around him, and in the process injures Nezuko too, when she tries to stop him.

However, Giyuu notices that, despite having a bleeding and injured prey (Nezuko) in front of him, he does not attack her any further or try to kill and consume her. This makes him believe that Tanjirou’s conscience is alive inside the demon’s body and is trying to fight it off.

It is really heartbreaking to see that after finally having achieved his goals, Tanjirou is not able to enjoy it. On the other hand, he has been turned into the villain this time around. If he does revert back to being a human, he will likely be haunted by his actions as a demon which caused injuries to his friends or maybe the people he ended up killing.

Yes you read that right. Tanjirou might have killed off someone very close to him, after being converted into a demon.

Towards the end of chapter 202, we see Kanao Tsuyuri rushing over to Tanjirou using her flower breathing technique to inject him with the same serum that turned Nezuko back into a human. It is revealed that Tamayo had managed to make some extra dose of the medicine and handed it over to Shinobu, which she then gives to Kanao.

Thankful that she still has vision in one eye left, Kanao rushes over and manages to inject the medicine into Tanjirou, but not before getting hit by him and suffering a nearly fatal wound. As she falls down with a thud, she asks Tanjirou to come back and stop making Nezuko cry. 

This could very well have been the last words of Kanao Tsuyuri. For fans, who still find it hard to digest the loss of Shinobu Kocho and the other pillars, the death of Kanao (if confirmed in the next chapter) could be a point of no return in terms of sadness and depression regarding the loss of a favourite character.

Is Kanao Tsuyuri Really Dead?

The chapter literally ends on a cliffhanger as we are not shown what happens to Kanao and if someone tries to save her or not. Killing off a character, who has till now had a great arc and is poised to become the successor to Shinobu and Kanae, would be a foolish move as far as typical storylines in mangas go. However, Koyoharu Gotouge has not shied away from killing off the characters who are close to the reader’s hearts and this could very well be one of those occasions.

Also the status of whether Kanroji and Iguro are alive is not known. The last we saw them, Kanroji was lying in Iguro’s arms and they both confessed their love for each other, while accepting the fact that they might die soon. 

It certainly looks like demon slayer manga is drawing to a close, but it is not the happy ending that everyone predicted as the deaths of all these major characters are sure to leave a bad taste in the mouth for readers. Also, if the manga does progress further, it needs to be seen how the demon slayer corps will rebuild and if new characters that Koyoharu introduces will be able to win our hearts as these current characters have.

That said, all these open points can only be addressed once the next chapters of the Demon Slayer manga come out and all we can do is wait with our fingers crossed till then.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Chapter 203 Release Date:

Chapter 203 of Demon Slayer will be delayed due to the widespread effects of Coronavirus in Japan. The manga will be on a one week hiatus and the new chapter is likely to hit the stands on April 26th 2020. The chapter can also be read for free on Viz.com.
