Crunchyroll Increases Subscription Cost In 11 Territories

The increase in cost will take place from October 31.

Crunchyroll has increased their monthly subscription cost in several territories across mix of web and mobile. The territories are

  • Chile
  • Canada
  • Austria
  • Finland
  • Argentina
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • Mexico
  • Netherlands
  • Faroe Islands
  • Greenland

The increase in cost will take place from October 31.

Furthermore, Funimation prices will also increase across a mix of web and mobile in Chile, Australia. New Zealand and Canada. Whereas, the prices will decrease in Brazil, Peru & Colombia.

The reason cited for these changes in subscription plans is “as part of creating a unified subscription service.

Funimation recently increased cost of subscription in an effort to make smooth transition to Crunchyroll’s subscription plans, post the latter acquired the former. The cost increased from USD 5.99 a month to USD 7.99 a month for premium plan and from US$7.99 to USD 9.99 for the premium plus plan.

Crunchyroll had lowered its subscription cost in almost 100+ territories in July. The list included:

The streaming giant announced in March that it will stop AVOD subscription model from Spring. Only the first 3 episodes of the anime will be available to watch with AVOD format for a limited time. For other episodes the user will have to pay. The subscription model is similar to what Viz Media and other major manga streaming sites implement.
