Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man manga bagged the best manga award at The Harvey Awards on Friday. Chainsaw Man competed against Tatsuya Endo’s smash hit spy thriller SPY x FAMILY, Naoki Urasawa’s Asadora!, Junji Ito’s Remina and Keito Gaku’s Boys Run The Riot.

The awards were held at the 2021 New York Comic Con. The winners were selected by a full body of comic and publishing professionals.

In his statement, author Fujimoto expressed his thanks for having received the award.

“It’s the best award of any awards that exist in America! I consider this crude manga of mine unbefitting of any award, but I plan to continue packing it full of all the things that I love.”, Fujimoto said.

Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man is only the fourth manga to have won the best manga award The Harvey Awards after Kabi Nagata’s My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness, Kōhei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia and Kamome Shirahama’s Witch Hat Atelier.

The Harvey Awards recognizes and honors exceptional works in the fields of comics and arts. It is one of comic industry’s oldest and most prestigious awards.

Though Harvey Awards began way back in 1988, the Best Manga category was only added in 2018. Before that, manga were nominated alongside other comics in the “Best American Edition of Foreign Material” category. Hajime Isayama’s Attack On Titan bagged an award in this category back in 2014.

Inuyasha creator Rumiko Takahashi was also inducted into the Hall of Fame at this year’s Harvey Awards along with Bernie Wrightson (Swamp Thing), Jeffrey Catherine Jones (Creepy, Vampirella), Barry Windsor-Smith (Conan the Barbarian, Weapon X), and Michael Kaluta (The Shadow, Starstruck).
