Chainsaw Man Anime Will Be Uncensored, MAPPA Staff Reveals At Anime Expo

However, no trailer or release date for the anime was revealed in the panel.

Makoto Kimura, MAPPA’s Rights Management Director, revealed during the Chainsaw Man panel conducted by Crunchyroll and MAPPA at Anime Expo 2022, that Chainsaw Man‘s anime adaptation will be uncensored.

Kimura was answering questions asked by fans at the panel presentation when he revealed that the anime will stay true to the manga, and MAPPA won’t censor anything when it came to adapting the gore scenes from the series.

He added that the Chainsaw Man anime will emphasize on the rawness and the originality of the manga, with the staff aiming for the anime to be dynamic and theatrical.

According to Kimura, the wild pacing of the manga too will be replicated as closely as possible in the anime.

It was also revealed in the panel that the anime was being developed by working very closely with creator Tatsuki Fujimoto. The mangaka was also involved in casting of the voice actors, as the production team strives to make this adaptation a perfect representation of the original.

While the staff kept stressing on how the anime will follow the manga closely, some scenes from the manga will be extended for more impact.

The panel revealed the nitty-gritties of the anime adaptation, however, no trailer or release date for the anime was revealed, much to fan’s dismay.

MAPPA CEO Manabu Otsuka, who was present at the panel, said that the wanted to give information about the Chainsaw Man anime during the panel, but he wanted everything to be perfect before he revealed it to the fans.

The teaser video for the anime was revealed at Jump Festa 22, which stated that the anime will release sometime in 2022. However, no further information about the anime, which is currently under works, has been made available to fans since then.

The staff added that more info about Chainsaw Man anime will be revealed at the Crunchyroll Expo in August 2022.

Crunchyroll had revealed earlier that they will be streaming the Chainsaw Man anime in over 200 countries and territories across the globe, except Asia, while Media Link, which run Ani-One YouTube channel, brought the rights to stream the anime in Asia, including China.

Ryū Nakayama is directing Chainsaw Man at MAPPA, and Hiroshi Seko is writing the scripts. Kazutaka Sugiyama is designing the characters, and Tatsuya Yoshihara is directing the action.

Makoto Nakazono is serving as chief technical director. Kiyotaka Oshiyama is designing the devils, and Yūsuke Takeda is directing the art. Naomi Nakano is the color key artist, and Yohei Miyahara is designing the screens. Kensuke Ushio is composing the music.

Chainsaw Man is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto. It was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine from Dec 2018, with its chapters collected in eleven tankōbon volumes. As of December 2021, the manga had over 12 million copies in circulation.

The manga was nominated for the 13th Manga Taisho awards in 2019, and ranked at #4 on the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2020 (This Manga Is Amazing!) guidebook’s top manga for male readers. The manga won in the Best Shōnen Manga category at the 66th Shogakukan Manga Awards in January.

Additionally, the manga topped the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2021 list for male readers. Chainsaw Man also won the Best Manga award at The Harvey Awards in October 2021.
