Boruto Otsutsuki Manifestation Adds New Possibilities To Teenage Boruto Flash-Forward

Boruto otsutsuki, has a nice ring to it.

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Manga Chapter 43 was one of the most important chapters in the manga series till now as it revealed some major information about the karma seal and its effects. It seems that Boruto’s victory over Momoshiki Otsutsuki was laid to waste when he received a karma seal, which effectively makes him a resurrection vessel for Momoshiki or we can call him Boruto Otsutsuki

This was confirmed when Momoshiki manifested out of nowhere when Boruto was being bludgeoned by Boro during their fight.

The new look Team 7 (with Kawaki) were facing off against Boro in another dimension where Naruto was trapped by Jigen, the leader of the mysterious organisation Kara. While the young shinobi are able to find Boro‘s weakness and take out the generator powering his scientific tools with the help of Sarada’s Chidori, he goes on a rampage and beats down Team 7 with ease. It is then that Boruto’s mind and body is taken over by Momoshiki Otsutsuki.

He is effortlessly able to control Boruto and even access his jutsus with ease, which is seen when he decimates Boro with a huge Rasengan. The essence of Momoshiki then fades away with Boruto having no memory of what happened.

Though the manifestation didn’t last long, Otsutsuki did warn that Boruto will soon come to lose everything he had.

Momoshiki Otsutsuki in Boruto

This major reveal now makes everything about the much debated opening flash forward scene of the anime & manga seem different.

The opening scene showed a teenage Boruto and Kawaki facing off on top of the Hokage rock at Konohagakure (Hidden Leaf Village), which seemed to be ravaged due to battle. Fans have been speculating for long about this scene, and various theories were being floated around including the possibility of a Naruto/Sasuke like rivalry between the two or Kawaki eventually joining the Kara and deciding to take down the Shinobi world

However, with the latest reveal the situation seems to have changed and it has given rise to new possibilities. It could be that the characters we witness in the beginning are not Boruto and Kawaki but instead, Momoshiki and Isshiki Otsutsuki, the previously unrevealed partner of Kaguya Otsutsuki, whose Karma seal Kawaki has.

According to Comicbook, the battle could take any of these following forms,

  • Momoshiki and Isshiki settling some Otsutsuki grudge using Boruto and Kawaki’s bodies.
  • Boruto battling the Otsutsuki possessing Kawaki (presumably Isshiki).
  • Kawaki battling a possessed Boruto (presumably Momoshiki).
Boruto's Otsutsuki Manifestation

Fans now believe that Momoshiki manifestation has added new dimensions to the stories and opened up a lot of possibilities which is set to make the series even more interesting. Also, Momoshiki foreshadowing that Boruto will lose everything sends a chill down the spine of Boruto fans.

The reason?
Many fear it spells the death of their favourite characters Naruto and Sasuke at the hands of either Boruto, Kawaki or Jigen with an Otsutsuki manifestation. Well, we will save that discussion for later then.

Originally created by Masashi Kishimoto for Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 1999, Naruto follows a young ninja, with a sealed demon within him, that wishes to become the Hokage of his village, Konohagakure. The series ran for 700 chapters overall, and was adapted into an anime series by Studio Pierrot and Aniplex that ran from 2002 to 2017. The series was popular enough to warrant a sequel, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations which is set several years after the events of the original Naruto story and features the children of many of its key characters such as Naruto and Hinata.
