Japanese voice acting agency Aoni Production has partnered with AI voice platform CoeFont Corporation to create AI-generated versions of the voices of Masako Nozawa and Banjou Ginga.

While the initial phase of the partnership features 10 Aoni Production voice actors, only the names of Nozawa, and Ginga have been revealed.

The collaboration aims to convert the recording of their voices into AI in multiple languages, including English and Chinese, for global applications.

Their voices will be offered primarily for voice assistant platforms such as Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, as well as products like robots and medical devices with voice navigation features.

The goal is to promote voice recognition technology in the global market and contribute to social welfare, allowing more users to enjoy services using the familiar voices of their favorite voice actors.

Both companies have, however, emphasized that this AI voice technology will not be used in acting-related fields, such as anime, dubbing, or in or foreign films.

This partnership arises amid growing global concerns over the misuse of AI technology to illegally learn and replicate the voices of actors and voice performers. Aoni Production and CoeFont revealed that they are committed to addressing these concerns by focusing on the ethical use of AI while protecting performers’ rights.

Aoni Production President Kenjiro Takeuchi emphasized the importance of AI as a tool to expand possibilities without infringing on the creative work of voice actors.

The most important thing to remember is that AI is a tool designed to support humans and expand our possibilities. I want everyone to understand that it is the voice actors who breathe life into characters. This initiative does not see AI voice technology as an enemy but as a means to deliver the charm of these voices to fans around the world, while firmly protecting the rights of performers. With this goal in mind, we have decided to partner with CoeFont.

CoeFont CEO Shogo Hayakawa added, “I believe the voices of Japanese voice actors are among the best in the world. I am thrilled that we can help expand the possibilities of these captivating voices while protecting their rights. I would be delighted if we could use AI’s multilingual capabilities to spread these voices globally.
