The official Twitter account and website for Anime Expo announced in a press release on June 8, 2022, that it has updated its Health and Safety Protocols standards and will no longer require attendees to provide proof of vaccination or negative test results upon entry.
However, all attendees while inside the Los Angeles Anime Convention are required to wear face coverings, regardless of vaccination status. The specifications mention that the coverings should fit snugly and properly, fully covering attendees’ nose and mouth, and secure under the chin.
“All attendees of AX 2022 will be required to wear face coverings, regardless of vaccination status, at all times unless in outdoor areas or actively drinking or eating. Face coverings must fit snugly and properly, fully covering your nose and mouth, and secure under your chin,” wrote the official website.
The Health and Safety page also revealed that masks/face coverings are mandatory for all attendee groups, including but not limited to, exhibitors, artists, vendors, guests, staff, press, industry, volunteers, and cosplayers.
The staff notes that “these requirements and guidelines may be subject to change as more details emerge.”
Anime Expo previously announced in December 2021 that attendees would require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test taken 72 hours prior to the event.
The 31st Anime Expo will return to the Los Angeles Convention Center on July 1-4, 2022. The AX 2022 will be held as an in-person convention.
