One of the leading streaming platforms Amazon Prime has acquired the streaming rights to Mobile Suit Gundam movie titled Mobile Suit Gundam: The Island of Cucuruz Doan. The movie will be available to stream on Amazon Prime from October 1, 2022. In addition, it has also acquired rights of Golden Kamuy‘s fourth season, Mob Psycho 100 III and the second series of POPTEPIC. In addition, it’ll be the first to distribute the 6th season My Hero Academia, Lupin The III vs Cat’s Eye, Made In Abyss season 2 and Chainsaw Man in Japan.
The movie is the first movie in 43 years to be directed by Yasuhiko Yoshikazu, he served as the character designer and animation director of the 15th episode of the 1979 anime series Mobile Suit Gundam. The episode was titled “The Island of Cucuruz Doan”.
The movie earned 1.09 billion yen at the box office and had 550,000 attendees. The DVD and Blu-Ray of the movie will be released on November 25, 2022.
Earlier, Amazon Prime acquired the streaming rights of the Shin Evangelion the movie.
In September 2022, the streaming company also created a Twitter account dedicated to Anime only. This move of acquiring so many anime titles may have an impact on rivals such as Netflix, Disney Plus, and Hulu.
