Akita Shoten has officially begun the demolition of its headquarters in Tokyo. But rather than a simple farewell, the company has turned the construction site into a battleground for Baki’s legendary father-son showdown.
Located at 2-10-8 Iidabashi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, the headquarters had stood since 1973.
With the building set for reconstruction due to aging, Akita Shoten humorously framed its demolition as the aftermath of the ultimate brawl between Baki protagonist Baki Hanma and his father, Yujiro Hanma.
In the original manga, the Hanma family showdown was described as causing tremors across the city. The display around the headquarters builds on this idea, suggesting that the battle’s aftershocks as the cause of the building’s collapse.
Akita Shoten even joked about it in their official statement saying, “Our headquarters has collapsed due to the strongest father-son fight in history.”
The construction site’s temporary enclosure also features visuals inspired by the said fight. Additionally, a visual of Baki bowing apologetically to the residents for the noise and inconvenience caused by the construction has also been included.

Akita Shoten relocated to a temporary office in Bunkyo, Tokyo, on Jan 6, with plans to complete its new headquarters by September 2027.
Sawa Takashi, Baki‘s original editor and current Akita Shoten managing director, expressed his enthusiasm for the transition, stating, “New manga! New worlds!! A new era!!! The explosive energy of Baki and Yujiro’s ‘Greatest Father-Son Fight on Earth’ has burst forth. Riding that momentum, we’re demolishing and completely obliterating our old headquarters! Akita Shoten will be reborn for a new era. To our neighbors, we sincerely ask for your patience during this time… With deepest respect.“
President Yamaguchi Tokuji also addressed the public, saying, “Due to aging, we have decided to demolish our headquarters. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause to our neighbors. But imagine that beyond this enclosure, the Hanma family’s ultimate battle is unfolding—it might make this otherwise dull construction site a bit more entertaining.”
