Adipurush, one of the most recent film adaptation of Ramayana, an Indian epic, has garnered a wave of criticism following its release on June 16, 2023, as fans and enthusiasts of the epic turned their attention to Ramayana anime and declared it the ultimate adaptation of the narrative.
Adipurush film, directed by Om Raut, consisted of star-studded cast and a remarkable soundtrack. However, despite all these, audience were quick to point out flaws in the film’s direction, dialogues, screenplay, visuals, and deviations from the source material.
On the other hand, Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama, a 1992 anime film co-produced by Japan and India, has been hailed as one of the best adaptation of the epic by fans after Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan TV series.
The anime film was especially praised by the fans for its attention to detail, character designs, music, dialogues, and faithfulness to the original story.
They also expressed their desire for another collaboration between Indian producers and Japanese anime studios, suggesting a long-running series that explores the entirety of the Ramayana in detail.
Fans also went on to encourage everyone to to watch the anime instead of Adipurush, calling the film “the biggest scam,” whilst emphasizing that the Japanese-produced animation surpassed it in quality.
Another fan praised Ramayana-The Legend of Prince Rama as magnificent and dismissed Adipurush for its “crappy animation”.
They also urged the streaming giants to buy the digital rights of anime.
