Komi Can’t Communicate Grabs 67th Shogakukan Manga Awards

Winning titles will be honored with a bronze statuette and a prize of 1 million yen (about US$9,000).

The official website of Shogakukan Comics announced on Tuesday, Jan 18, 2022, through a press release that Komi Can’t Communicate (Comi-san wa Comyushō desu.) won the 67th Shogakukan Manga Awards under the category of “Best shounen manga“.

Tomohito Oda‘s Komi Can’t Communicate manga, serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday (Shogakukan), competed against Saizō Harawata and Miyakokasiwa‘s Battle Game in 5 Seconds (Deatte 5-byō de Battle) and Hajime Kōmoto‘s Mashle: Magic and Muscles manga in the same category.

Apart from the Best Shounen Manga, the winners of the following categories are:

Best Shōjo Manga: My Love Mix-Up! (Kieta Hatsukoi) by Wataru Hinekure and Aruko, serialized in Bessatsu Margaret (Shueisha).

Ai Minase‘s Seishun Heavy Rotation, Kyousuke Motomi‘s Queen’s Quality, and Oreko Tachibana‘s Promise Cinderella manga were also nominated for this category.

Best General Manga: Nigatsu no Shōsha: Zettai Gōkaku no Kyōshitsu by Shiho Takase, serialized in Weekly Big Comic Spirits (Shogakukan) and Do not say mystery (Mystery to Iu Nakare) by Yumi Tamura, serialized in Monthly Flowers (Shogakukan).

Uoto‘s Chi: Chikyū no Undō ni Tsuite and Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari‘s Oshi no Ko manga were nominated for this category.

Sakuya Kuroda‘s Rich Police Cash and Shino Kawada‘s Hello! My Baby manga were nominated for the Best Children’s Manga category, however, no titles were chosen as the winner.

Each winning title will be honored with a bronze statuette and a prize of 1 million yen (about US$9,000).

Chainsaw Man, Teasing Master Takagi-san, Dead Dead Demon’s Dededededestruction, Police in a Pod, Duel Masters, Chocolat no Mahō, and Yuzuki-sanchi no Yon Kyōda won the 66th Shogakukan Manga Awards for 2020.

Seven members, Eiji Kazama, Genki Kawamura, Kazuhiko Shimamoto, Bourbon Kobayashi, Fujihiko Hosono, Naoko Matsuda, and Maha Harada, served as judges for the 67th Shogakukan Manga Award.
