The stage panel for Shu‘s The Misfit of Demon King Academy at Dengeki Bunko Winter Festival Online 2021, announced that Yuichiro Umehara will replace Tatsuhisa Suzuki as the voice of the lead character Anos Voldigoad. The announcement was made on Sunday, Dec 12, 2021.

It was announced in March 2021 that The Misfit of Demon King Academy TV anime will be getting a second season and that the cast from season one will reprise their respective roles.

Suzuki announced in August that he would withdraw from the role, along with stepping aside from “all entertainment industry activities”. The decision was finalized after a discussion between Suzuki’s agency and the prodcution committee of the anime.

The Bunshin Online had reported that the voice actor and singer allegedly cheated on his wife, Japanese singer LiSA, with a female fan.

Suzuki also stepped down from the role of Kōtarō Higashi/Ultraman Taro in the Ultraman anime’s second season. Kyoto Animation however confirmed that he will continue to voice the character of Makoto Tachibana in Free! anime.

Written by Shu and illustrated by Yoshinori Shizuma’s The Misfit of Demon King Academy: History’s Strongest Demon King Reincarnates and Goes to School with His Descendants light novel series originally began as a web novel in April 2017 on Shōsetsuka ni Narō. Later, ASCII Media Works acquired the series which officially began to publish in March 2018.

Kayaharuka adapted the manga, serialized online from July 2018 to July 2021, when it ended due to the author’s death from pancreatic cancer. An anime television series adaptation by Silver Link aired from July to September 2020.

Anos Voldigord was a tyrannical Demon King that eradicated humans, spirits, and even the gods, but became bored of eternal warfare and reincarnated with dreams of a peaceful world. However, what awaited him in reincarnation after 2000 years were descendants who became too weak after being accustomed to peace, and all sorts of magic that deteriorated to the extreme. Anos enters Demon King Academy that gathers and educates those who are viewed as the reincarnation of the Demon King, but the academy could not see through his true powers and ends up branding him as a misfit.
