On May 5th, 2021, the official Made in Abyss website announced that Season 2 will be released in 2022 (date not specified). The 2nd iteration of the Made in Abyss series is called “Made in Abyss: Retsujitsu no Ougonkyo” or “Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun“

On 21st November, we get a teaser trailer and a key visual to the upcoming sequel.

In addition to these, we get information about the staff and cast members who are set on giving fans the best experience worthy of the franchise. The key staff and cast members are the following:

Synopsis (According to MAL):

The Abyss is a huge pit stretching down into the earth’s depths, teeming with enigmatic animals and relics from a long time ago. How did it come about? What is at the very bottom? Countless brave individuals known as Divers have attempted to unravel the mysteries of the Abyss by fearlessly plunging into its lowest depths.

Those who remain on the surface revere the White Whistles, the best and bravest of the Divers.

Riko, the missing White Whistle Lyza the Annihilator’s daughter, wishes to be like her mother and explore the depths of the Abyss. However, as a new Red Whistle, she is only allowed to explore its uppermost stratum.

Despite this, Riko has a fortuitous encounter with a mystery robot dressed as a small kid. Reg is named after her, and he has no recall of the events that led up to his finding.

Certain that the technology used to construct Reg must have come from deep beneath the Abyss, the two decide to venture down the chasm to regain his memories and witness the bottom of the huge pit for themselves. They are, however, unaware of the brutal reality that is the genuine existence of the Abyss.

An Online Fan meeting was held on 21st November to look back on the first season and the movie.

Including the original author, Akihito Tsukushi, the production team such as the main cast and director were also on stage.
