The official twitter account of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump revealed that Jujutsu Kaisen Manga will go on an indefinite hiatus. The hold-up is due to author Gege Akutami’s sudden illness. The manga’s return date will be announced once Akutami has made a recovery from his illness.

The upcoming Chapter 152 of Jujutsu Kaisen in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #28 will only have 9 pages due to this reason.

Though the mangaka’s note revealed that his recovery should take around a month, nothing is exactly specified. According to Akutami, he did not want to slow down the serialization of the manga, but the editorial staff asked him to take a break to recover his condition. He assured that his illness is not anything serious and that his mental health is also fine.

The notice released by the editorial staff to announce the hiatus said the following;

“To our readers;

Thank you for always reading Jujutsu Kaisen. Due to the poor physical condition of Akutami Gege, Jujutsu Kaisen will be absent for some time from the next issue onward. Akutami wanted to continue writing, but after several discussions with the editorial department, it has been decided that it’s better for Akutami to take a break for a certain period of time. We determined it was the best decision for the mangaka to recover their physical condition.

More information will be given in the upcoming Weekly Shonen Jump issue. We apologize to all the readers who have been following us, so we look forward to your continued support”

There were already concerns about the rough drafts used in the manga for chapter 150 for which fans were questioning the health of the mangaka. This is the second time Gege Akutami has asked for a delay of Jujutsu Kaisen manga within the first half of the current year.

Jujutsu Kaisen is a manga series written and illustrated by Gege Akutami. It was serialised in Shueisha’s weekly Shonen Jump from March 2018. It has been collected into 16 tankonbon volumes as of June 2021.
