Kentaro Miura Was Already Planning To “Fold” Berserk

Not even a month has gone by since Berserk creator Kentaro Miura revealed in a joint interview with Animate Times and mangaka Shizuya Wazarai that he was planning to wrap up Berserk.

On 14th April 2021 Cestvs: The Roman Fighter manga creator Shizuya Wazarai and Miura sensei shared a conversation about the future of their mangas. Both of them are long-running and very highly acclaimed. Cestvs has been running for more than 20 years while Berserk has been serialized for over 30 years!

When Wazarai asked Miura about how much is remaining of Berserk, he replied with a laugh that he was planning to “fold”(original expression “畳もう” describes an act of folding tatami mats) the series rather than spreading it anymore.

To this Wazarai confessed he is not even halfway to put an end to his manga. He seemed very worried for himself. Miura stated that if that is the case then it is going to be a race with the time of one’s lifetime. But he mentions, that there are instances when people work even at an age of 90; where poetically a human life span is of 100 years.

During the interview, they both discussed each other’s interests in their respective mangas. They both agreed that they didn’t stray from the idea the initial image of their creations. Rather, what Miura sensei tells us, “When doing a taiga-like work like ourselves, I don’t think we can continue if it shakes or changes a little.”
