If you are watching Jujutsu Kaisen keenly, you may have noticed that almost all Jujutsu Sorcerers have a tendency to cover their eyes. In fact, even Itadori notices this while he accompanies Nanami. From Gojo Satoru to Principal Yaga of Tokyo Metropolitan high, everyone wore a blindfold or sunglasses, so that their eyes would be covered. Even Mei Mei, whom we see later in the series, uses her hair to cover her eyes. The only exceptions were the principal of Kyoto Metropolitan high and Utahime Iori (even Ieiri Shouko), but we have not seen them go out on active Jujutsu duty.
What could be the reason for Jujutsu sorcerers covering their eyes? The reason was revealed by Gege Akutami, the mangaka of Jujutsu Kaisen in the manga itself. And it is not because they have to hide some special powers of theirs.
To answer in short, Jujutsu sorcerers cover their eyes to stealthily observe the curses. If curses realize that they are being watched, they end up being more aggressive. This could prove to be an issue in exorcising especially in crowded places. In such situations, the curse or the cursed spirit can end up causing a lot of damage.
Jujutsu Sorcerers are the only people who can see curses. Normal human beings are not able to do so. Thus the curses freely linger amongst them without the slightest worry. Their defenses are usually low in such situations. By covering their eyes, the sorcerers make sure that they can observe the curse without causing any issue. Or even catch them unawares. This especially true for sorcerers who are on active duty. This could be another reason why people like Utahime and old principal Yoshinobu Gakuganji don’t cover their eyes.
However, Akutami sensei did specify that Gojo Satoru covers his eyes is for a different purpose.
