10 Animes That You NEED To Watch ASAP!

Everybody has watched those cult classic battle shonens and romance series like Naruto, HxH, YLIA, Clannad; how about some of the not-so popular ones?

These animes have a small community of people who appreciate their existence, mind joining them?

Let’s start with the list now:

Chihayafuru:

Starting strong with peak fiction.  Although I’ve only read 160 (out of 256) chapters of the manga and have only seen a few snippets from the anime (has three seasons so far), I can confidently say that it has one of the most strong and systematic pacings in animanga.

With a beautiful mix of sports and romance, this Josei series focuses on Arata Wataya, Chihaya Ayase and Taichi Mashima as they play the traditional Japanese sport of Karuta.

Run with the Wind

Run with the Wind is a sports anime with a touching cast, passion-fueling moments throughout the series, lovely sceneries, banger osts and running. This series’ strongest point is its cast, I’m sure that a lot of you will love it. Also some nice looking boys for the gals and the gays.

DISCLAIMER: DON’T EVEN DARE CALLING THIS A HAIKYUU RIP OFF. ONLY TWO CHARACTERS LOOK SIMILAR.

Tsuki ga Kirei:

Romance anime fans like me literally want only one thing and it’s wholesome.

Tsuki ga Kirei revolves around two third-year middle school classmates, Kotaru Azumi and Akane Mizuno. The series will depict each characters’ growth and connection to the people around them, such as classmates, club-mates, teachers, and parents and also centre on the youthful adolescent romance of the characters, who are pursued by change and uncertainty as the seasons inevitably pass.

Sakamichi No Apollon:

Kids on the Slope (Sakamichi No Apollon) revolves around the themes of friendships and music as we see the “city boy” Kaoru Nishimi shifts from Yokosuka to Kyushu. Follow this honour student as he Sentaro Kawabuchi becomes his first “friend” and he discovers the beauty of jazz music.

This anime gave jazz music a new light to me while making the “friendship” aspect of the anime very strong and impactful. Would 100% sing the opening in the shower.

Given:

Before you drop this beautiful anime because it’s BL, hear me out. This is a well-written bl anime with a lot of material in it as we see characters progress and develop over time.

Synopsis: Tightly clutching his Gibson guitar, Mafuyu Satou steps out of his dark apartment to begin another day of his high school life. While taking a nap in a quiet spot on the gymnasium staircase, he has a chance encounter with fellow student Ritsuka Uenoyama, who berates him for letting his guitar’s strings rust and break. Noticing Uenoyama’s knowledge of the instrument, Satou pleads for him to fix it and to teach him how to play.

Tonari no Seki-Kun: The Master of Killing Time:

Ever had that one friend beside you who never paid attention in class and just played or doodled on his desk and you look at them out of interest to be the only one caught? This is it.

Yokoi sits next to a boy called Seki-Kun who does random things like playing “dramatic shogi” in class. His sneak level is 100.

Inuyashiki: Last Hero:

With an amazing protagonist grandpa and a cool otaku antagonist whose iconic line is “bang”, I’m sure you know what anime I’m talking about.

58-year-old Ichiro Inuyashiki finds out that he has only a few days left after being diagnosed with cancer, only to be met with more disrespect and ignorance from his family. Then, a blinding light in the night sky strikes the earth where Ichiro stands. He later wakes up to find himself unscathed, but he soon starts to notice that there’s something…different about himself.

NOTE: HEAVY USE OF CGI.

Senryuu-Shoujo:

Komi-san can’t communicate but better. There, I actually said it. My end is near.

Eiji Busujima was a delinquent in middle school, but now that he’s in high school, he’s trying to put all that behind him. He’s even joined the literature club! Unfortunately, while Eiji’s heart might be in the right place, his face didn’t get the memo, and if his scowling, slit-like eyes don’t scare people away, then his attempts at senryu poetry probably will.

But there’s one member of the literature club who isn’t easily intimidated: Nanako Yukishiro, an odd but cheerful young woman who never speaks and communicates only through senryu poetry! So, when the meddling president of the club decides to encourage a relationship between this strange literary pair, the haiku is sure to fly!

Lovely Complex:

Mane, this shoujo drama is hilarious. A tall than average girl, a shorter than average guy.

They’re considered as a comedy act by the whole class because they’re always making fun of each other. You see where this is going.  This series is a great mix of comedy and drama as we see the cast go through normal teen things. You love to see it.

Nisekoi: False Love:

Homeboy Ichijou Raku has to fake a relationship with the blonde transfer student to prevent a gang war (yes).

This turns in to a nice harem comedy. The “plot” is pretty good.

Just Because!:

With graduation already causing its own share of anxieties, Eita’s sudden arrival brings some students’ carefree days to an abrupt end. Long-forgotten memories, deeply buried emotions, and inspiring new passions—everything is brought to light in their bittersweet final semester.

Just Because! works really well as a transition anime or something that you want to watch to just relax.

So that’s all for today folks! Like some of these? Want to add some more? Don’t be shy, comment your favourite underrated anime picks and senpai will notice you for sure!
