Eiichiro Oda Plans To End One Piece Manga In 4 to 5 Years

Creator of the world famous One Piece Manga, Eiichiro Oda, said in an interview with Arashi band’s a la tubo program last week that he has already decided to end the story of the manga in 4 to 5 years. The question was asked by Masaki Aiba which was, “Have you decided about how many more years the plot has?”

While responding to another Arashi Member Satoshi Onho Oda noted that the ending is already decided by him. Oda also further explained that he has to talk about everything every time his editor changes. During the interview, the editor who was sitting right beside him confirmed that he also knows the ending of the journey.

When Oda started writing One Piece in 1996, he was still working as an assistant to Nobuhiro Watsuki .It all started as two one-shot stories entitled Romance Dawn which would later be used as the title for One Piece’s first chapter and volume. They both featured the character of Luffy, and included elements that would appear later in the main series.

In an interview with TBS, Takanori Asada, the original editor of One Piece, revealed that the manga was rejected by Weekly Shōnen Jump three times before Shueisha agreed to publish the series.

Today One Piece is one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time, estimated to have generated more than $21 billion in total franchise revenue, from the manga, anime, films, games and merchandise. The manga has set the Guinness World Record for “the most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author” according to the official website of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece Manga. As of April 2020, One Piece had over 470 million copies in circulation in 43 countries worldwide, making it the best-selling manga series in history. It became the best-selling manga for the eleventh consecutive year in 2018.

In this year’s 35th issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine (August 2) it was teased in an advertisement for the upcoming One Piece Magazine volume 10 which is coming on september 4, it was teased that “One Piece is headed toward the upcoming final saga.”

In september 2019, a video was posted on Youtube in which Oda said that he wants to end the One Piece in 5 years and again in November 2019 he reemphasized the plan.
