Fruits Basket Season 2, Release Date In April Confirmed!

Fruits Basket’s remake in 2019 garnered huge support and everyone has been looking forward to the second installment of the series with much hope and excitement. Fruits Basket, based on Natsuki Takaya‘s classic manga was a major anime of last year as it aimed to reboot the original anime which released at the turn of the century only. The reboot follows the manga much more closely than the previous adaptation gaining positive reviews from various sections of fans and also the author herself.

Fruits Basket Season 2 was slated to be a part of the massive wave of anime which will premiere in Spring 2020. A few days ago, Funimation confirmed the much awaited news and confirmed the release date of Fruits Basket season 2 to the joy of fans.

Funimation revealed recently that the Second season of Fruits Basket will premiere on April 6 2020 at 11:30 pm in Japan (effectively April 7). The series will be broadcast on  TV Tokyo and TV Aichi followed by TV Osaka. Fans throughout the world can stream the anime on Funimation and Crunchyroll.

Fruits Basket Season 2 will continue to focus on the relationships between Tohru Honda and Yuki and Kyo Sohma. The addition of two new characters Machi Kuragi and Kakeru Manabe will add more twists and turns to the slice of life anime.

The anime follows Tohru Honda thought her life was headed for misfortune when a family tragedy left her living in a tent. When her small home is discovered by the mysterious Soma clan, she suddenly finds herself living with Yuki, Kyo, and Shigure Soma. But she quickly learns their family has a bizarre secret of their own: when hugged by the opposite sex, they turn into the animals of the Zodiac!

The reveal came along with a new visual for the anime (which is the cover image of this blog), which shows Tohru Honda and the Sohmas at the beach.

Along with the reveal, Funimation also posted a message from the Natsuki Takaya, who praised the broadcast of the second season of the anime.

“Congratulations on the broadcast of the second season of the anime, Fruits Basket (2019). I appreciate all of those who are part of its production for their continued involvement from the first season, and I’m very happy that I can observe as the title reaches many viewers,” she said in her statement.

Takaya further added that she cried while reliving the story, as she had forgotten the details of what she had written over a decade ago.

“The characters in the second season have lost their way, but it’s because they are lost that they can make the most out of it and struggle to search for the right path. I hope everyone will watch over them until they find their way. It would give me the utmost joy if everyone will love them as they search. I look forward to watching as a viewer myself”

Fruits Basket Season 2 Cast and Crew!

Most of the cast from the 2019 anime have been retained for Fruits Basket Season 2. Manaka Iwami will reprise her role as Tohru Honda while Nobunaga Shimazaki and Yuma Uchida will return for their roles of Yuki and Kyo Sohma

The second season has two new additions with Takuya Eguchi and  Ai Kakuma roped in to play the roles of Kakeru Manabe and Machi Kuragi respectively.

Yoshihide Ibata (Pikaia!, FLCL Progressive) is returning to direct the new season at TMS Entertainment. Taku Kishimoto (Silver Spoon, Haikyu!!, 91 Days, Hanebad!) is again in charge of series scripts, Anime News Network reported. Creator Natsuki Takaya serves as the executive supervisor for the anime.
