The exact release date for season five of the hit anime series Food Wars has been revealed. The fifth season will be the final season of the anime with the series set to adapt the Beach Exam and BLUE arc in it.

It was initially confirmed by Crunchyroll that the anime will be premiering in April 2020 as a part of its Spring 2020 anime season. However a key visual regarding the fifth season of the anime has been released along with the exact release dates of Shokugeki no Soma.

Food Wars season 5 will be released on Friday, April 10, 24:30 JST, which is effectively April 11. The anime will be premiered in Japan via Tokyo MX, as per the usual broadcast, while streaming services such as Crunchyroll would let fans simulcast the anime worldwide.

The image hints at several plot elements that will be covered in the fifth season.  But the thing that got fans excited was the mysterious character in the visual with blue eyes, who is holding two knives with him. This is the same guy who had appeared in the last scene of Food Wars Season 4, meeting with Erina.

Manga readers have already recognized the cryptic man as Asahi Nakiri and he is going to be the main villain in Season five of Food Wars. He is regarded as the leader of Midnight Chefs, a group which rarely makes public appearances despite their culinary prowess. They mostly work for criminal organisations and have the same traits as their bosses.

Asahi is known for taking the knives of the chefs he has defeated across the globe and could be the reason why he is seen with two knives.

An official teaser for Food Wars Season 5 has also been released which features Erina, Takumi, Megumi, and Soma who are set to be the main characters in the upcoming beach Exam and BLUE arc. In the teaser, Takumi is seen with a mezzaluna.

Written by Yūto Tsukuda and Illustrated by Shun Saeki, Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma, was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from November 2012 and concluded in June 2019. An anime adaptation by J.C.Staff began airing in April 2015. 

The series is set mainly at Totsuki Saryo Culinary Institute, an elite culinary school located in Tokyo, Japan, and follows teenager Soma Yukihira aspires to become a full-time chef in his father Joichiro’s family restaurant and surpass his father’s culinary skills.
