Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba has already won many fans with its unique character design and story. However, the hype doesn’t stop there. The staff of the hit franchise made an announcement on Monday which saw it overtake Death Note, Haikyu!!, Sailor Moon and other fan favorites.

The staff of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba franchise announced that on Feb. 4, when the 19th Volume of the Series will be published, the manga will have over 40 million copies in circulation. This number includes manga books, digital releases and other publications. 

The announcement was made along with the unveiling of the poster for the 19th Volume of the manga series.

According to the numbers, the manga has managed to sell an average of 2.22 million copies per volume. The number is only set to increase as Japan still faces a shortage of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga.

Just over a month ago, Koyoharu Gotuge’s manga celebrated after announcing 25 million copies, both physical and digital, were in circulation. According to Shueisha, Demon Slayer was the company’s second highest selling manga, second only to One Piece till November 2019. Kimetsu no Yaiba had managed to sell 10.8 million manga volumes between November 2018 and November 2019, while One Piece sold 12.7 million manga copies in the same period.

Demon Slayer also managed to overtake Bleach and My Hero Academia, for the volume sales in the same period. By the time volume 19 releases, it would have overtaken Naruto and inched closer to One Piece.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba by Koyoharu Gotouge was launched in 2016 in Weekly Shonen Jump.  The story follows Tanjirō Kamado, a young boy who becomes a demon slayer after his entire family was slaughtered by a demon, except for his little sister Nezuko, who was turned into a demon as well, vowing to find a way to make her human again.

Viz Media has published the series in English digitally and in print. 

The manga also inspired an Anime series of the same name, which began airing on April 6, 2019. Immediately following the airing of the series till Sept. 26, a sequel movie was announced, which will be released sometime in 2020.
